Outdoor Research, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling about 900 sets of gloves sold between November of 2008 and January of 2009 due to a potential burn hazard. The problem stems from a potential short circuit in the glove’s electric heating pad.
Because the gloves may be hazardous to the wearer, Outdoor Research is recommending consumers stop using them immediately and contact them at 1-888-467-4327 for a refund or replacement.
These gloves are popular with the snowboarding crowd, but it’s important for all of us outdoor enthusiasts to remember that even though we don’t use AC-powered gadgets in the backcountry, there are still risks when dealing with battery power. Have you experienced any safety problems with your outdoor gadgets?

Relying on battery powered gear in winter is foolish. My personal bias. YMMV.
